Lamin Jammeh, the spokesperson of Edward France Teaching Hospital has confirmed
to this paper that 129 Gambian doctors have gone sit-down strike since Thursday
following comments made by the minister of Health and Social Welfare.
Safie Lowe-Ceesay accused doctors of corruption – a comment that did not go well with doctors. Since then, doctors called on the minister to apologise, retract her comments and resign.
However, independent analyst said that the demands advanced by doctors seem not realistic considering the comments Mrs. Lowe-Ceesay made.
