Monday, May 19, 2008

Defence counsel Lamin Camara, representing Lt. Bakary Camara and Manlafi Sanyang in the ongoing government theft case, on Friday informed the court that he had filed a motion for stay of proceedings on behalf of his clients.

Lawyer Camara informed the court of the defence's intention to appeal against the ruling on the no-case submission at the High Court thus necessitating the filing of a motion for a stay of proceedings pending the outcome of their appeal against the overruling of the no-case submission by the court.

It could be recalled that the Banjul Magistrates Court, chaired by Senior Magistrate Kayode, recently dismissed the no-case submission put up by the defence.

The trio, Lt. Bakary Camara, ex-Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang and Dominico Fedelish are being tried on

charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing while Lt. Camara is further charged with giving false informatiom to a public officer.

The case continues on 20th May, 2008.
